Last fall, the 2023 JADPRO Live conference welcomed more than 1,500 in-person attendees and 200 virtual attendees. Sessions took place at the Orlando World Center Marriott from November 9 through 12. Select CE-accredited sessions were livestreamed, and all CE-accredited sessions were available on-demand until the end of 2023. Altogether, attendees could earn up to 30 CE credits by attending live and recorded sessions. Along with educational sessions, 98 posters were presented in the Poster Hall, and attendees could visit and interact with more than 100 booths in the Exhibit Hall.

Throughout the conference, there were additional opportunities to learn from satellite symposia and product theaters on novel therapies, along with networking events such as peer roundtables and Braindates. At these networking events, attendees could schedule small-group discussions on the topics of their choosing, from navigating difficult conversations, to expanding roles in clinical research, to onboarding a new advanced practitioner role.

New that year, a poster walk during the opening reception gave attendees a sneak peek at select posters, and an oral poster presentation showcased five clinical posters and their findings.

The JADPRO Live meeting is also the setting for the annual meeting for the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO), where members share APSHO society highlights and accomplishments of the past year, and plan initiatives for the future.

The concept for JADPRO Live came from a vision for a place where readers of the Journal of the Advanced Practitioner in Oncology (JADPRO) could come together and share their expertise with other advanced practitioners. It has been amazing to see the growth of the journal, APSHO, and JADPRO Live conference, and witness the forming of a collaborative group of advanced practitioners dedicated to improving the care of patients with cancer.

IN THIS ISSUE

This special bonus issue of JADPRO summarizes select presentations from the conference. Three drug updates sessions on new approvals in solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, along with what to keep an eye out for in the pipeline, provided quick highlights of novel mechanisms of actions, targets, and safety profiles. A session dedicated to biomarkers reviewed the function of biomarkers such as FLT3, ALK, and BRCA1/2, along with corresponding diagnostics and targeted therapies.

You’ll also find articles on the management of common cancers. A panel on managing metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer included Stephanie L. Graff, MD, FACP, FASCO, of Legoretta Cancer Center at Brown University and Lifespan Cancer Institute, Jeanine R. Showalter, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, AOCNP®, of Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at HCA Midwest Health, and Christine McGinn, MSN, APRN, ACNP-BC, of Lifespan Cancer Institute. Presenters also discussed biomarker testing, clinical trials, and evidence-based best practices for managing adverse events in patients with metastatic non–small cell lung cancer. Mary B. Morgan, MSN, ANP-BC, AOCN®, of Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center at UT Southwestern, and Tammy Triglianos, DNP, ANP-BC, AOCNP®, discussed the treatment of colorectal cancer in the adjuvant and metastatic settings, as well as clinical and molecular profiles to consider. Recent research has advanced our understanding of prostate cancer, and presenters addressed the diagnosis, classification, and management of localized and metastatic prostate cancer. A presentation on navigating treatment options and addressing patient needs in multiple myeloma was led by Rachid Baz, MD, and Beth Finley-Oliver, MSN, ARNP, AGNP-BC, both of Moffitt Cancer Center.
