In March 2024, a reader contacted the journal, noting similarities between bands in Figure 3A. The specific issues raised concern the K562 and K562 AHI-1 lanes for the P-AKT blot, the K562 AHI-1 and K562 IMR lanes for the P-GAPDH blot, and the K562 AHI-1 and K562 IMR lanes for the P-JAK2 blot. The journal subsequently contacted the authors, who provided the source blot files, but these did not provide sufficient reassurance that these images were not the same blots at different exposures. While the results shown in Figure 3A do not affect the primary conclusions of the article, the journal editors are not confident in the validity of these bands and advise readers to be cautious when interpreting these results.

The journal notified the authors of this editor’s note but could not find contact information for Ralph Arlinghaus, Michael J. Barnett, Tess L. Holyoake, James Paul, and Jon Stobo. Connie Eaves is deceased.
