==== Body
pmcThis article has been retracted: please see Elsevier Policy on Article Withdrawal (https://www.elsevier.com/about/policies/article-withdrawal).

This article has been retracted at the request of the Editors-in-Chief.

The Journal carried out an investigation into this article after a Corrigendum request made by the authors and Pubpeer comments concerning some figures and data.

In this article, duplication of image data between Fig. 4A and 8A was detected, and it has also become apparent that the bands from b-actin used as a loading control in the Western blots were from different gels and membranes to those of the bands quantified. This gives the Editors no confidence that the quantitative data that is presented is correct.

The scientific community takes a very strong view on this matter and apologies are offered to readers of the journal that this was not detected during the peer review process.
